FJ 100: Organ Music of Francis Jackson
FJ 100 was released in 2017 and marked the 100th birthday of Dr Francis Jackson, the doyen of English organists. From his first published piece, the Impromptu of 1944, to the Fifth and Sixth Sonatas composed in the first decade of the present century, this programme is an affectionate survey of Jackson’s brilliantly crafted music, ably served by the Nicholson organs of the Collegiate Church of St Mary, Warwick.
LIMITED EDITION available directly from Mark Swinton.
A unique opportunity to hear a rare Venetian Swell harpsichord, manufactured by Thomas Culliford in 1785 for the music sellers Longman & Broderip, in a programme of music that explores all the tonal colours of this instrument.
Works by George Frideric Handel, Domenico Scarlatti, Domencio Cimarosa and John Stanley feature alongside lesser-known gems by Giles Farnaby and William Tisdall. This recording, with additional tracks performed by Kenneth Mobbs, is the realisation of the late Alexander MacKenzie of Ord's work, spanning half a century, to restore this remarkable instrument to its original glory.
The debut recording of violinist Lucy Phillips, this disc presents a selection of pieces for violin with organ accompaniment.
Some of them are conceived for that combination of instruments, whilst others have been specially arranged. The programme includes the ever-popular 'The Lark ascending' by Ralph Vaughan Williams, together with music by Heinrich von Biber, Johann Heinrich Schmelzer, Johann Sebastian Bach, Sigfrid Karg-Elert, Olivier Messiaen and William Lloyd Webber.
A unique collection of organ music and pieces arranged for organ, composed by J.S. Bach and members of the Bach family.
Recorded in St Mary's Collegiate Church, Warwick, expertly arranged and played by Mark Swinton, the music demonstrates the development of keyboard music across four generations of composers.
